Every man in the village had tried to defeat the giant, but it was impossible. The very sight of him paralysed them.Then one day a young man arrived asking for food and shelter. They said they would give him what he asked if he could defeat the giant. Desperate, he agreed.The giant emerged from his cave. He was massive, tall and strong. Surely no-one could defeat him! The young man gulped, fought his fear and started to walk towards the giant. Then he noticed something strange. The nearer he got, the smaller the giant seemed. From fifty feet away he seemed to have shrunk to the height of a tall man, from forty a small man, from thirty he was shoulder height, from twenty, waist height. When the young man finally reached him, the giant had shrunk so small he couldn’t even be seen.
